Arabic Coffee & Dates: Cultural Experience

Sarah Mitchell May 29, 2026

I still remember the day I visited the Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood, October 15th, 2022, and was greeted with a warm cup of Arabic coffee and a plate of sweet dates. So, I decided to learn more about this tradition. Look, it's not just a drink, it's an experience that brings people together.

What is Arabic Coffee?

And, as I found out, Arabic coffee is made from green coffee beans, roasted to perfection and then ground into a fine powder. But, what makes it unique is the cardamom, which adds a distinct flavor. You'll find it's usually served in small cups, and it won't break the bank - a cup costs around 10-15 AED.

Where to Experience Arabic Coffee and Dates

Here's the thing: there are many places in Dubai where you can experience this tradition. Honestly, my favorite spot is at the Arabian Tea House in Al Bastakiya, near the Al Fahidi Metro Station. We ordered a pot of Arabic coffee and a plate of dates for 50 AED, and it was more than enough for the two of us.

Etiquette and Customs

So, when you're invited to drink Arabic coffee, there are a few customs to keep in mind. You'll be handed the cup with your right hand, and it's polite to accept it with your right hand as well. But, don't worry if you're not sure what to do — the locals are always happy to guide you. I recall our driver, Ali, explaining the customs to us during our Dubai Half-Day City Tour.

Insider Tips

Look, if you want to try something new, head to the Museum of the Future, and after, grab a cup of Arabic coffee at one of the cafes nearby. You'll find it's a great way to relax and take in the sights. And, if you're planning a trip to Abu Dhabi, consider the Yas Island Combo Experience for some thrilling adventures.

So, to make the most of your Arabic coffee and dates experience, try it at a traditional setting, like a majlis, where you can sit and enjoy the company of locals. Tours can be booked through Roamigo Trips, and their knowledgeable guides will take you to the best spots in Dubai.
