I still remember my visit to Ras Al Khor wildlife sanctuary on a sunny Friday morning, 17th February. So, I packed my camera and headed to the sanctuary, located near the Dubai Creek, just off the E44 highway. It's a short drive from Downtown Dubai, and you can easily get there by taking the metro to the Union Metro Station and then a taxi.
Look, getting to Ras Al Khor is relatively easy, but be prepared for a bit of a walk from the parking area. Honestly, it won't take you more than 10 minutes to reach the sanctuary from the parking lot. And, the best part is that it's free, so you won't have to spend any money, unlike the Desert Safari with VIP seating which costs around AED 150 per person.
Here's the thing: Ras Al Khor is a haven for birdwatchers, with over 600 flamingos calling the sanctuary home. You'll see these beautiful birds up close, and it's a truly breathtaking experience. But, be sure to bring your binoculars, as the flamingos can be a bit far from the viewing area. We spent around 2 hours at the sanctuary, and it was well worth it.
So, if you're planning to visit Ras Al Khor, make sure to bring plenty of water and sunscreen, as it can get quite hot. You can also grab a bite to eat at one of the many restaurants near the sanctuary, like the ones on Al Khawaneej Road. I ordered a delicious shawarma from a street food stall for just AED 10, and it hit the spot.
If you're looking for more exciting activities to do in Dubai, consider taking a Deluxe Marina Dhow Cruise or a Dubai Half-Day City Tour. Both of these tours offer a unique perspective on the city, and they're definitely worth checking out.
