Staying Connected in Dubai

Getting a SIM Card

I've learned that buying a local SIM card is a no-brainer. You'll find kiosks at Dubai Airport, or you can head to a du or Etisalat store on Sheikh Zayed Road. I paid AED 55 for a du SIM with 1 GB of data, valid for a week. So, it's easy to get connected as soon as you arrive.

WiFi in Dubai

Look, free WiFi is widely available in Dubai, especially in malls like Dubai Mall or Mall of the Emirates. And, you can usually find it in cafes and restaurants too. But, be careful, as some networks might not be secure. Here's the thing: I've found that using a portable WiFi hotspot can be a good alternative, especially if you're traveling with a group.

Staying Connected on the Go

I was on a desert safari on December 15th, and our driver, Ali, had a portable WiFi hotspot in his 4x4. Honestly, it was super helpful, as we could stay in touch with our group while navigating the dunes. You'll find WiFi in many taxis and cars too, including those you can hail on Al Rigga Road or near BurJuman metro station.

Costs and Options

So, what are your options? You can buy a SIM card, use free WiFi, or get a portable hotspot. Prices vary, but you can expect to pay around AED 100-200 per month for a SIM card with a decent data package. I'd recommend checking with your hotel or accommodation provider to see if they offer free WiFi, as many do, including those on Jumeirah Beach Road.

Practical Tips

And, one more thing: don't forget to check your phone's compatibility with Dubai's networks before you arrive. You can do this by contacting your phone provider or checking their website. If you're looking for a fun experience, you can also book a Premium Marina Dhow Cruise or a Warner Bros. Family Fun Day through Roamigo Trips, and stay connected while enjoying your tour.

For tours and activities, I recommend checking out Roamigo Trips, they offer a range of experiences, including the ones I mentioned earlier. You'll have a seamless experience, and you can focus on enjoying your trip, rather than worrying about staying connected.
