Staying Connected in Dubai

Roamigo Team May 14, 2026

I still remember my first day in Dubai, December 15th, 2018, when I struggled to find WiFi at the Dubai Airport. Look, getting a local SIM card or portable WiFi hotspot is essential for navigating the city. You'll find SIM cards available at du or Etisalat stores near the airport or at malls like Dubai Mall.

Sim Cards in Dubai

So, I opted for a du SIM card, which cost me AED 55, including 1GB of data. Honestly, it was a relief to have a working phone, especially when hailing a taxi on Sheikh Zayed Road. My driver, Khalid, recommended using the RTA Dubai app to book taxis, which was super convenient.

WiFi Hotspots

And, if you don't want to buy a SIM card, you can rent a portable WiFi hotspot, which costs around AED 20 per day. I tried this option during my visit to the Dubai Dolphinarium, and it worked seamlessly. But, be aware that the signal strength may vary depending on your location.

Free WiFi in Dubai

Here's the thing: many malls and cafes in Dubai offer free WiFi, so you can stay connected without spending a fortune. I enjoyed free WiFi at a cafe on Jumeirah Beach Road while sipping on a latte and watching the sunset. You can also find free WiFi at metro stations like Mall of the Emirates or Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall.

Staying Connected on the Go

So, whether you're taking a Desert Safari or visiting the Legoland Theme Park, make sure you have a reliable internet connection. You'll want to capture and share those amazing moments, and with a local SIM card or WiFi hotspot, you can do just that.

Practically speaking, my top tip is to purchase a SIM card or WiFi hotspot as soon as you arrive in Dubai, and don't forget to check the data limits to avoid any additional charges. For more travel tips and to book your next tour, visit Roamigo Trips.
